About ADRI

Asian Development Research Institute

The Asian Development Research Institute (ADRI) was established and registered as a Society by a group of social scientists in 1991. It is a non-profit civil society organization, dedicated to social science research.

The academic tradition of Patna, had indeed been weakening at since the eighties. ADRI was established as an attempt to reverse that negative trend. It followed an interdisciplinary approach to social science research.

UNIQUE FEATURES

This institution has achieved a reputation as a think-tank, working on multidisciplinary policy research on social sciences. It has been able to create a mutually beneficial partnership between the policy makers, academicians, civil society and the media all working towards the development of Bihar in particular and Hindi heartland in general. It has been working with sub-national, national and international organizations over the years. As a mother institution, ADRI host different thematic centres namely Centre for Health Policy, Centre for Studies on Environment and Climate, Jan Sikshan Sansthan, and Centre for Economic Policy and Public Finance of Government of Bihar till 2023. ADRI hosted International Growth Center based at the London School of Economics and Political Science. ADRI has worked closely with local, national and international organizations over the years. ADRI has a network of 250 researchers all over the world.

RECOGNITION & ACHIEVEMENTS

· Nobel Laureates: Four Nobel Laureates, including Prof Amartya Sen, Prof Joseph Stiglitz, Prof Abhijit Banerji, and Prof Esther Duflo have visited the institute, praised its work on record.

· ICSSR Recognition: Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) has recognised ADRI as one of its member institutions.

· Ground Level Network: The institution has developed grassroots-level network through various activities including literacy activism and vocational training in Bihar and Jharkhand. Through its ground-level research and exchange of ideas with some of the finest minds in the nation and the world, ADRI has been able to generate very innovative research discourse that resonated with policy-makers and found political support across political parties

· President’s Award: The State Resource Center, ADRI received Special Award by Dr A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, then President of India, for National Female Literacy Programme.

· Padmashree Award: Fourth highest civilian award Padmashree was given to ADRI’s founder Dr. Shaibal Gupta posthumously for his extraordinary contribution in the field of literature and education.
