INAUGURAL SESSION
Chief Guest
Dr. Prem Kumar is currently a Cabinet Minister of Environment, Forests & Climate Change in the government of Bihar. He is also Bihar’s former Minister of Agriculture; Road Construction as well as that of Public Health Engineering. He has been a member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly (MLA) since 1990 and holds a PhD from Magadh University, Bihar. During the course of his career, he has received prestigious accolades like the Nirmal Gram Award, 2007 (bestowed on him by Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, H.E the President of India) for excellent performance as a Minister of Public Health Engineering; Excellence Award (given by Sri Pranab Mukherjee, H.E the President of India) to the Department of Road Construction in the category of Best Road Construction when he headed the Department of Road Constructions; Rastriya Krishi Karman Award, 2018 (bestowed on him by Hon`ble Prime Minister Sri Narendra Modi) for achieving a plentiful production of maize; and the Rastriya Krishi Karman Award, 2020 (again given by Hon`ble Prime Minister Sri Narendra Modi) for producing bountiful quantities of maize and wheat. .
Welcome Address
Professor Ajit Sinha joined ADRI as its Director on February 8, 2024. Professor Sinha studied Economics at Delhi School of Economics and has a Ph.D. from State University of New York at Buffalo. He started his career as lecturer of Economics at the University of Delhi in 1982, and went on to teach Economics at State University of New York at Buffalo, York University, Canada and The University of Newcastle, Australia. In 1999, he joined LBS National Academy of Administration, Mussoorie as Professor of Economics and Member, Academic Council for two years. Since then, he has been Professor (and also Director) at Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Maître des Conférences Associé at Collège de France, Paris, Visiting Professor at Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR) in Mumbai, University of Paris 1 (Sorbonne), University of Trento, Italy; Professor at Azim Premji University in Bangalore and the founding Chair, Research and Faculty Recruitment at the Thapar School of Liberal Arts and Sciences in Patiala. He has also been Visiting Fellow at the Delhi School of Economics, JNU, Bombay University and Visiting Scholar at Faculty of Economics and Politics, University of Cambridge, UK. He has also served as a member of several committees of Indian Council for Social Science Research (ICSSR). Professor Sinha has authored three books and edited/co-edited 4 volumes along with more than 60 research papers in leading international journals, edited books and encyclopaedias.
Position Paper: “Waste Management and Air Pollution in the city of Patna”
Anshuman is working as a Project Coordinator (Clean Mobility) at Centre for Studies on Environment and Climate, ADRI. He comes from a background of the architecture profession, having specialized in urban transport and planning. Currently, he is involved in the effort to adopt clean mobility in the urban freight sector of Bihar. He has done his Master’s in urban planning and has worked previously at the Centre for Science and Environment, New Delhi under the Sustainable Habitat and Building Programme for research in policies related to energy efficiency and thermal comfort in countries of Africa. His research interests include transport planning, renewable energy policies, and environmental planning and policies.
Ghazal Hashmi is working as a Research Associate at the Centre for Studies on Environment and Climate, ADRI, Patna. She has been working on the preparation of the green budget for the Bihar government. Presently, she is working on Climate Vulnerability Assessment of Heat Stress in the context of Bihar. She possesses a Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering from the National Institute of Technology, Patna along with a Post-graduate Diploma in Data Science from IIITD. She specializes in climate change adaptation, geo-spatial analysis, and data-driven policy development.
Sunil Kumar Gupta is working as the Lead Researcher (Air Pollution & Climate Change) at the Centre for Studies on Environment and Climate (CSEC), ADRI, Patna. He brings an experience of more than 5 years in Air Pollution Exposure Modelling, Emission Inventory, Source Apportionment, Receptor, Dispersion Modelling and Climate Change. He has published widely in peer-reviewed (SCI-listed) international journals and has been cited by numerous researchers. He obtained his PhD in Environmental Sciences from IIT (ISM), Dhanbad, India. Subsequent to receiving his PhD, he was employed for 2 years as a Post-doctoral researcher at Chaoyang University of Technology, Taiwan. He has also worked as a Post-Doctoral Fellow in the Department of Civil Engineering at IIT (Madras), India. His major work areas have been emission factors, relative ozone formation potential and relative carcinogenic risk assessment of VOCs emitted from manufacturing industries; exposure to atmospheric particulates and associated deposition doses after respiration among street vendors at residential and commercial sites of Dehradun and other cities.
Event 2: Round Table 1 - “Transforming Patna into a green city: What is required?”
Possessing an experience of over 25 years, Anil Kumar Roy is a Senior Associate Professor at CEPT University, Ahmedabad. He successfully defended his PhD in Urban Geography from JNU, New Delhi, and studied Urban and Regional Planning at CEPT University. Dr Roy was awarded a Canadian Studies Doctoral Fellowship for his PhD and was affiliated with Dalhousie University, Halifax, Canada in 2002. He had also been associated with national and international institutions such as the UNESCO Office in New Delhi and PRIA and CSE, New Delhi prior to joining CEPT University in 2009. He has worked on various advisory projects like the preparation of master/development plans as well as regional and sub-regional plans; benchmarking of industrial estates; and assessment of climate change impacts on drought-affected areas and coastal communities for urban local bodies, state and national governments. His research papers have been published in national and international journals. Dr Roy has published two books and is working on another one, which is about planning education in the Global South. His research interests have been on urbanization and public health, including water, sanitation and hygiene in the Global South; urban environment and climate change; urbanization and its linkages with urban poverty and informalities.
Malhotra Anuj Malhotra is a landscape architecture professional who specializes in urban transport and urban design projects, with a diverse record of serving the private, public as well as the non-profit sectors. Anuj Malhotra currently serves as General Manager – Planning and Urban Development at Srinagar Smart City Limited, which is a Govt. of J&K undertaking. Anuj’s most recent and notable contribution has been transformational work that he did in Srinagar involving socio-cultural healing and transformative projects such as Lal Chowk, Polo View, Riverfront, and many more. As GM- Planning, he is responsible for the making of policy and design/planning; tendering and overseeing the implementation of urban transport and development projects. Consequently, he has received several awards from around the country including the prestigious UMI Award, 2023 in the category of the “City with Best Transport System”. Prior to being stationed in Srinagar, Anuj served as a knowledge partner to MHA, where he oversaw the implementation of the pedestrianization of Ajmal Khan Road under the Karol Bagh Project. This endeavour also won him the UMI Award, 2019. Anuj has also been the CEO and co-founder of Centre for Green Mobility (CGM), an award-winning non-profit organization in urban design and urban transport. A particularly outstanding contribution made by him resulted in the Volvo Award for 25km Cycle Tracks in Diu. He has served as an advisor to DDA and several municipal corporations in the country while also building the first greenway in the country in Bhuj after being employed with Hunnar Shaala in 2002.
Akash Hingorani is the Principal Co-Founder of Oasis Designs Inc., which is a multi-disciplinary firm dealing mainly in urban-level projects like parks, streetscapes, urban plazas, etc. His firm has been engaged in various types of projects, ranging from planning new TOD Townships, Smart Cities, Streetscapes, Public Landscapes, Plazas to regular commissioning of private schemes. His firm's work executes sustainable urban design concepts by creating vibrant public realms and ecologically sensitive urban spaces.
Paromita (Romi) Roy is an architect and urban designer with an experience of 23 plus years while leading regional & master planning projects in USA, Asia, Africa, Europe, Russia & the Middle East. Currently, she heads the Dwarka & West Zone unit of the housing & urban projects wing of DDA, implementing transit-oriented development (TOD) in housing and commercial projects as well as working on eco-restoration and streetscaping/ place-making projects. She is a gazetted member of the State Expert Appraisal Committee (SEAC) advising the government on granting environmental clearance to development projects. Paromita is a specialist in Transit Oriented Development (TOD) in the context of India. She has also pioneered in the making of the first-ever Street Design Guidelines of India which was adopted by UTTIPEC, DDA in 2009 and by various IRC Codes & National Guidelines subsequently. She also created the trail-blazing Multimodal Integration (MMI) Policy (MPD-2021), which was implemented in 64 Metro stations of Metro Ph-III, Delhi. She has co-authored the Decongesting Delhi Roadmap which was prepared for the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs (MOHUA) and is currently being executed by the government.
Event 3: Keynote 1- “Preliminary results of a source apportionment study for air pollutants in the Kolkata Region”
Prodipto Ghosh is a multi-disciplinary professional specializing in an area which lies at the interface of Science, Economics, and Public Policy. He has a PhD in Economics and Policy Analysis from the Carnegie-Mellon University at Pittsburgh, USA. Currently, he is a Distinguished Fellow at TERI and a member of the Scientific Advisory Council of the Cabinet and Governing Council of the Indian Council of Social Science Research concurrently. Prior to this, he served as a member of the National Security Advisory Board, PM’s Council on Climate Change, G-20 Advisory Group of the Ministry of Finance, and the CAG’s Audit Advisory Committee. He is Adjunct Faculty at Carnegie-Mellon University, Pittsburgh; TERI University; and a Visiting Fellow at Smith College, Oxford, UK. He has also held the position of Secretary at the Ministry of Environment and Forests, GOI; Economic Advisor and Additional Secretary to the PM; Additional Secretary at the DEA; and Senior Environment Specialist at the Asian Development Bank, Manila. He played an active role as a part of India's team for the UNFCCC climate change negotiations from 2001 to 2012..
Event 4: Round Table 2 - “Revamping urban transport to check congestion and pollution and increase economic efficiency”
Karkun Arunesh Karkun is a Senior Research Associate at Sustainable Futures Collaborative. His work primarily involves researching air quality governance, specifically focussing on analysing the regulatory and policy aspects of air quality management. He also deals with issues pertaining to electric mobility and climate policy. Arunesh has obtained an M.Sc. in Climate Change and Sustainability Studies from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai.
Dr Mahalaya Chatterjee is a Professor of Urban and Regional Economics in the Department of Economics at Calcutta University. Till 2017, she was also the Director of the Centre for Urban Economic Studies and has been actively engaged in teaching and researching Economics for the last three decades. She has been co-ordinating a course on urban management and planning for the last five years apart from writing two books, one on urban land economics and the other on environmental management. An edited volume on socio-economic perspectives of urban development in Howrah ‒ the twin city of Kolkata ‒ was also published by her. Furthermore, she has written numerous articles in national and international journals and edited volumes and is on the editorial Board of ‘Urban India’, the flagship journal of the National Institute of Urban Affairs.
Chakravarty Sarika Chakravarty possesses nearly two decades of cross-sectoral experience in the urban, transportation, and environmental planning domains. Currently, she is working as the Team Lead of the GEF-7 funded Urban Shift Country Project of the National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA). This institute is widely regarded as a think tank for the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Govt. of India. Previously, Sarika was the sectoral lead for land, transport and shelter sectors of the Master Plan for Delhi – 2041 at NIUA. In this capacity, she had led a team of planners to develop a baseline and formulate strategies so as to enable sustainable, equitable, and inclusive development of the city. As part of this team, she also contributed in the formulation of the Land Policy, TOD Policy, and Regeneration Policy for Delhi. Sarika has also been associated with organizations like UNICEF and NCRPB and has worked on various projects funded by multi-lateral agencies like the World Bank, JICA, DFID, etc.
Shreekant Gupta is presently Visiting Senior Fellow, Centre for Social and Economic Progress (formerly Brookings India) and is also a former Professor of the Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi. Earlier, he served as the Director, National Institute of Urban Affairs where he was involved in the implementation of the National Urban Renewal Mission and the Master Plan for Delhi. Dr Gupta has also worked as an economist for the Environmental Department of the World Bank at Washington, D.C. and as President of the Indian Society for Ecological Economics. He received his PhD in Economics from the University of Maryland, apart from being a Fulbright Fellow at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA and a Shastri Fellow at Queens University, Canada.
Event 5: Presentations on Urban Waste Management (03:40 p.m.–04:30 p.m.)
Dipankar Bhattacharjee is attached to the Socio-economic Planning Unit (SEPU) of the Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA) as Assistant Planner. He has completed his Doctorate from the Department of Economics, University of Calcutta. His research interests revolve around urban services and household amenities. His academic interests and aspirations have led to the publication of a few articles in national and international level-journals.
Joy Karmakar is currently serving as a Lecturer in the Department of Geography at Serampore College in Hooghly, India. He also teaches as a Guest Lecturer for the Department of Geography and Rural Studies at West Bengal State University. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Calcutta, with a focus on planned towns in West Bengal, India. Previously, he was a Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Urban Economic Studies (CUES), University of Calcutta. He has authored several articles on urban issues in peer-reviewed journals. His research interests lie primarily in urban and regional planning, housing, governance, and environmental studies.
Event 6: Screening of Film
Sanjay Srivastava is the British Academy Global Professor at SOAS, University of London. His research interests consist of urban cultures, consumerism, middle-class cultures and ethnographies of the state. Some of his key publications are “Constructing Post-colonial India: National Character and the Doon School” (Routledge, 1998); “Passionate Modernity: Sexuality, Class and Consumption in India” (Routledge, 2007); “Entangled Urbanism: Slum, Gated Community and Shopping Mall in Delhi and Gurgaon” (OUP, 2015); and “Masculinity and the Post-National City: Streets, Neighbourhoods, Home and Consumerism” (Cambridge University Press, 2022). Previously employed at the Institute of Economic Growth, Delhi University, he has also been the Co-editor for the journal “Contributions to Indian Sociology” between 2002 and 2016. His current assignment explores new land markets in Gurgaon and the relationships they produce between the state, private capital and newly-enriched rural land-sellers. He has earlier played an active role in the making of ethnographic films like “Doon School Chronicles” and “Kotla Walks: Performing Locality”.

Event 7: Round Table 3- “Moving from a linear to a circular economy: What we need in terms of outreach, institutions and policies?”
Partha Sen obtained his PhD from the London School of Economics in 1984. He taught at the Delhi School of Economics as a Professor from 1996 to 2011 and as a Reader in Economics between 1990 and 1996. He held the position of the Director of Delhi School of Economics from 2008 to 2011. He has also held full-time appointments at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, USA; the London School of Economics; and the University of Bristol apart from appointments as visiting faculty at University of Michigan; Hitotsubashi University; ISER, Osaka; HKUST; NUS; NTU; the City University, Hong Kong, among others. His research papers have been published in journals like the International Economic Review, Journal of Public Economics, Journal of International Economics, and the Journal of Economic Dynamics and Control. He edited the Indian Economic Review from 1997 to 2007. His areas of interest are macro-economics, international economics and environmental economics. He has featured on the National Public Radio (USA), Swedish National Radio, CNBC (Singapore), Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, Rajya Sabha TV, etc. He is a member of the CESifo, Munich research network apart from being a Non-Resident Senior Fellow at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research.
Paramita Dey is a city planner by profession with over 25 years of experience in urban development. She heads the Resources and Waste Unit as well as being the program lead for the Sustainable Cities and Water and Sanitation program at NIUA. She has been spearheading the programme on “Capacity Building in Sanitation and Waste Management” as part of the Swachh Bharat Mission 1.0 (Urban) of the government of India. Striving to bridge the gap between infrastructure policy and practice through the South Asia Urban Knowledge Hub, she has also helped create innovation labs on Urban WASH solutions in Indian cities. Paramita has been associated with several Ministries in India along with internationally-funded projects of UNIDO, ADB, UNDP, CIDA, USAID, World Bank and with leading think tanks like the Centre for Policy Research (CPR) and the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE). Paramita has spoken cogently at events like the U-20, BRICS Summit, Global Solutions Summit, International Circular Economy Forum, etc. Many of her research-based studies have been published as working papers. She has written extensively on issues related to Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH); the circular economy; urban poverty reduction; land tenure; urban environment, etc.
Dr Sudakshina Gupta is presently a Professor in the Department of Economics and Director of the Centre for Urban Economic Studies at the University of Calcutta, India. She got her Doctorate degree from Jadavpur University and teaches Economic Theory, Indian Economic Problems and Urban Planning at the post-graduate and M. Phil levels. She is also the Chairperson of UGBoS, Economics and Women's Studies. She conducts research on issues like Transport Economics, Ancient Indian Agriculture, Environment, Women’s issues, Education, etc. at the PhD and other levels. Her academic career of teaching Economics and related subjects at undergraduate and post-graduate levels spans nearly 26 years. She has published some 97 papers in English in national and international journals. Moreover, she has many articles in books, magazines and conference volumes to her credit with more than 62 written in Bengali.
Vivekananda Mukherjee holds the position of Professor of Economics at BITS (Pilani) in Hyderabad. He received his PhD from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, India. Also, he has served as a Research Fellow at the Planning Unit, Indian Statistical Institute, New Delhi. Before joining BITS Pilani, he taught at Jadavpur University; University of Burdwan; and RKM Residential College, Narendrapur in Kolkata. Dr Mukherjee has been a Post-Doctoral Fellow at INRA, France and Katholik University, Leuven, Belgium apart from being on visiting fellowship at the University of Gothenburg, INRA, Technical University of Freiberg, and Monash University. He has also taught at Centre for Studies in Social Science, Kolkata; Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, Kolkata, University of Gour Banga in West Bengal; and Centre for Urban Economic Studies, University of Calcutta as a visiting Professor. He is also Associate Editor of the South Asian Journal of Macro-economics and Public Finance.
Siddhartha Mitra is currently Professor of Economics at Jadavpur University, Kolkata. His previous designations have been Director (Research), CUTS International and Reader at the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Pune. Prof. Mitra has also taught at the University.of Melbourne, and Indian Statistical Institute, New Delhi. His research interests lie in the field of development economics, environmental economics, agricultural economics, political economy and economics of peace. He has been a prolific researcher with around 40 publications in national and international journals to his credit. He has been on consultative committees for the Ministry of Environment, Government of India. Prof. Mitra was a Consultant to the National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER), New Delhi and Center for Development Research (ZEF), Bonn in Germany. He successfully defended his Ph.D. and M.S. degrees at the Department of Agriculture and Resource Economics of the University of Maryland at College Park, USA.
Event 8: Keynote 2- “Heat causes large losses in earnings for informal sector workers in India”
E. Somanathan holds the designation of Professor in the Economics and Planning Unit of the Indian Statistical Institute in Delhi and Head, Centre for Research on Economics of Climate, Food, Energy and Environment (CECFEE). He is the Centre Director of EfD India. He was recently a Fellow at the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences at Stanford. His research is in the economics of environment and development. After receiving his PhD from Harvard University, he taught at Emory University, the University of Michigan, and Princeton University. He founded the Center for Research in the Economics of Climate, Food, Energy, and Environment (CECFEE) at the Indian Statistical Institute. Moreover, his other roles have been as the Executive Director of SANDEE (South Asian Network for Development and Environmental Economics), a co-ordinating Lead Author for the Fifth Assessment Report of the IPCC, and as a Co-Editor of the journal titled “Environment and Development Economics”.
Event 9: Presentations on Urban Transport
Debojyoti Lahiri has been teaching Economics at Sovarani Memorial College, Howrah since 2016 apart from pursuing his PhD from the Department of Economics, University of Calcutta. He completed his M.Sc. in Economics from the University of Calcutta. His major research area is Transport Economics. He has been teaching a wide array of topics such as Microeconomics, Mathematical Economics, Statistical Economics, Econometrics, International Economics, Environmental Economics, Development Economics, and the Indian Economy.
Chakraborty Sweeyam Chakraborty is a PhD Research Scholar at the Department of Economics, University of Calcutta. He is presently employed as a Research Fellow at The Centre for Urban Economic Studies, University of Calcutta. His research interests consist of issues in electric mobility, sustainable transport and urban economics. He has previously been Visiting Faculty of Economics at several institutions in Kolkata, viz., City College, Sammilani Mahavidyalaya, The Neotia University, and EIILM over a span of four years.
Upasana Bhattacharya is a Research Associate at the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, Kolkata as well as a PhD scholar at the University of Calcutta. Having developed a strong background in Economics, she specializes in Transport Economics and Green Mobility. Upasana has contributed to various research projects, including India's G20 Presidency, and has published several works on electric vehicles, COVID-19 impacts, and rural employment.
Event 10: Round Table 4- “Burning urban design issues in India and their pragmatic resolution”
Kanak Tiwari possesses a rich experience of 20 years in the urban sector. Presently engaged with the National Institute of Urban Affairs, she is one of the honchos of the Urban Strategy Unit, a multi-project unit aimed at driving urban transformations in India, as its Programme Director. She has also been a key player for the Master Plan of Delhi, 2041 and the Child Friendly Cities initiative at NIUA in the past. Kanak specializes in urban design, and urban planning and policy. Also, she has had stints with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, several state and city governments as well as international agencies and think tanks such as the World Bank, ICRIER, PRIA, CSH, and INTACH, among others. She has also taught at SPA, New Delhi and Jamia Millia Islamia as Visiting Faculty over a period of approximately 10 years.
Khushboo Taneja is an Associate Sr. Landscape Architect employed with Oasis Designs, Inc. She is a graduate of MBS School of Planning and Architecture, I.P University, and possesses a Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture from the School of Planning and Architecture, Bhopal. She has been working for this firm since December, 2020, where she has been involved in landscape projects dealing with streetscaping, housing and township at various stages of deliverables and co-ordination.
Nishant Lall is an urban designer/architect, having attended the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He has been practicing for more than two decades while commissioning many award-winning urban projects. He has served on many expert committees dealing with architecture and urbanism in India like Transit-Oriented Development Policy (TOD) and President’s Estate Urban Design. Apart from being on a mission to reframe the dialogue on cities in India, his key interests lie in urban ecological initiatives, reusing urban voids to create public spaces which would lead to a more vibrant and healthy city. Earlier, in the USA, he has distinguished himself in key projects like UPenn Vision 2030, Cambridge North-Point Plan adjacent to MIT, and Beijing 798 Cultural District Plan. Nishant also founded the New Delhi-based design practice called NilaA in 2010. This studio focuses on the integration of urban design, landscape and architectural implementation. He was actively engaged in a World Bank scheme for the urban revitalization of the Ganges Waterfront in Patna by means of a series of public spaces such as parks and art terraces. Apart from having taught at Boston Architectural College (BAC), Mr. Lall is currently visiting faculty in the Department of Urban Design at SPA, New Delhi. His research interests lie in envisioning solutions for evolving urban conditions as a result of climate change in cities.
Partha Ranjan Das has been an active architecture professional for more than 25 years. He is an active member of the Academic Council of SPA, New Delhi along with West Bengal Heritage Commission. Mr. Das is also Principal Consultant to West Bengal Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. and an advisor to NIASA. Partha Ranjan Das has been bedecked with numerous awards in his long architectural career. Some of these accolades are Special Prize in Housing Design Competition by HUDCO in 1987; prizes in all categories of Housing Design Competition by Jaipur Dev. Authority in 1989; IIA Dharmasthala award, 1994; Certificate of Merit from J.K. Cement’s Architect of the Year Award, 1994; Honourable Mention, Redevelopment of Crawford Market Design Competition, Bombay, 1995; Honourable Mention, International Housing Design Competition in Shanghai in 1996, etc. He was also an illustrator for the Satyajit Ray magazine “Sandesh” in 1984.
Dr Rutul Joshi is Sr. Associate Professor at the Faculty of Planning, CEPT University and also heads the Doctoral Office of the University. He works on transit-oriented development, sustainable mobility, and approaches to reform urban planning. Rutul’s current research focuses on planning low-emission zones, parking policies, and TOD-based retrofits for East African cities. Rutul also features occasionally in the newspapers and other media where he opines on urban mobility and civic issues.
Event 11: Presentations on Air Quality
Annanya holds the position of Senior Research Associate at Sustainable Futures Collaborative. Her research focuses on understanding the health and economic impacts of air pollution as well as studying how environmental governance can be improved. Her broader research interests have been on decentralised environmental governance and sustainable development. She has a Master’s degree in Specialized Economic Analysis from the Barcelona School of Economics. Ms. Mahajan has worked previously at the Centre for Policy Research where she focused on studying the capacity of environmental regulators. She was also employed at the Inclusion Economics India Centre, where she researched on broader development topics like local climate adaptation; capacity building and the governance of employment, health and nutrition schemes.
Suresh Pandian Elumalal is an Associate Professor in the Department of Environmental Science & Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT-ISM), Dhanbad in Jharkhand. His PhD degree is in Environmental Engineering from IIT (Guwahati), Assam, India. He is a life member of the Mining, Geological and Metallurgical Institute of India; Indian Water Works Association (IWWA); Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers (IIChE); American Chemical Society (ACS), Columbus, Ohio, USA. His research interests have been on air pollution, and vehicular emissions inventory and dispersion modelling. Some of his major published works include evaluating effects of traffic and vehicle characteristics on vehicular emissions near traffic intersections, dependence of urban air pollutants on morning/evening peak hours and seasons, characterization of hazardous solid waste (soot) accumulated in tailpipes of typical Indian shared autos, etc.
Karkun Arunesh Karkun is a Senior Research Associate at Sustainable Futures Collaborative in New Delhi. His work primarily involves researching air quality governance, specifically focussing on analysing the regulatory and policy aspects of air quality management. Mr. Karkun has been delving into issues pertaining to electrical mobility and climate policy. He holds an M.Sc. degree in Climate Change and Sustainability Studies from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai.

Bandana Preyashi (IAS, 2003; Bihar Cadre) is currently working as Secretary in the Department of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, Government of Bihar. She has been at the forefront of conceptualizing, developing and executing policies and programmes for conservation of the state’s natural resources, tackling climate change issues and striving to achieve sustainable development in the state. Possessing an experience of more than two decades, Ms. Preyashi is a bureaucrat gifted with vision. From empowering communities at the grassroot level as District Magistrate to shaping policies at the national level, she has left an indelible mark on India's governance landscape. She has many feathers in her cap, having held portfolios in the departments of Urban Development; Finance; Women & Child Development; Co-operatives; and Art, Culture & Youth.
