Events of Adri society
Patna, 14 April. Professor Prabhat P Ghosh, Member-Secretary, Asian Development Research Institute (ADRI) passed away today morning at 4.17 am in Kolkata. He was 79 years old and suffering from lungs problem since the last few months. Professor Prabhat P Ghosh was one of the founder members of ADRI. Along with Late Dr. Shaibal Gupta, it was Professor Ghosh who had conceived the idea of ADRI in 1991 and the two together have worked relentlessly since then to establish ADRI as an institution of social science research.
After completing his Masters in Statistics from the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI), Kolkata, he has been engaged in social science research for last four decades. As an economist, he has contributed substantially in the fields of regional economies and human resource development. In particular, he had constructed the first Input-Output Table for Bihar in the seventies which was one of the earliest among state-level tables in India. He has also been responsible for a number of large sample surveys on various social issues like socio-economic condition of Muslims in Bihar, Functioning of Women Self-Help Group in Bihar and Panchayati Raj Finances. He has also worked as an External Research Collaborator for International Labour Organisation (ILO), Geneva. Further, he has been a member of a number of Advisory Committees of both State and Central Government. In particular, he was a member of the Governing Body of Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) and Sixth State Finance Commission in Bihar. He has left behind his wife, son and daughter in law in his family.
