Dr. Shaibal Gupta conferred with Padma Shri posthumously

Patna, April 01. Dr. Shaibal Gupta was conferred the prestigious Padma awards on a ceremony held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan last Monday. His wife Dr. Ushasi Gupta received the award at the Durbar Hall of Rashtrapati Bhavan on his behalf. Dr. Gupta received this civilian honor for his extraordinary contribution in the field of literature and education. His analytical and informative articles had appeared in both academic journals and edit page of renowned national dailies. He was committed to the development of Bihar and, under very adverse circumstances, founded the Asian Development Research Institute, a world class research centre in Bihar.

The august gathering was attended by the honorable Vice President, Sri Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister, Sri Narendra Modi, Chief Justice of India, Sri N.V Ramana, Home Minister, Sri Amit Shah, and other eminent people. Dr. Ashmita Gupta, daughter of Shaibal Gupta, also attended the ceremony along with her mother. In the evening, the Home Minister hosted a dinner for all the awardees which was attended by cabinet ministers, senior bureaucrats and members of the civil society.

This year, 128 Padma awards are being presented. Dr. Gupta is the single recipient from Bihar who received the Padmashree award in the second civil investiture ceremony held on March 28.
