Patna, 3 July. The Centre for Environment Energy and Climate Change (CEECC) at Asian Development Research Institute hoisted a consultation meeting on cohesive action plan to combat climate change in Bihar at its premises. The Meeting was chaired by Shri Vyasji, Vice Chairman, Bihar State Disaster Management Authority and was Co-Chaired by Shri Bharat Jyoti, Assistant Chief wild life conservator of forests and Shri R B Singh, Director Ecology and Nodal Officer Climate gave the closing comments of the consultation meeting.
Dr. Shaibal Gupta, Member Secretary, ADRI stated that 02 degree rise in temperature will lead to a 20% decrease in production chain. Shri Vyasji also depicted the importance of Climate Change on drought and flood. The common consensus that was brought in the meeting was :
- State Action Plan on Climate Change (SAPCC) need to be restructured.
- More primitive information common pool has to be made.
- Steering committee and climate change cell should be made obligatory under department of forest and environment, Government of Bihar.
- Three major sectoral portions that needs to be implemented on research are — (a) Agriculture, (b) Water, (c) Health.
The participating agencies are: UNICEF, UNFPA, UNDP, OXFAM, DFID-ACT, ADPC, Doctors for you, Change Alliance, ICIMOD, Save the Children, Water Aid, Action Aid, British High Commission and others.
