Events of ADRI (Patna - Ranchi)
Patna, 25 April. A condolence meeting in memory of the renowned Statistician and Economist of Bihar, Professor Prabhat P Ghosh, was organized by the Asian Development Research Institure (ADRI) today. Professor Ghosh was the Member-Secretary of ADRI. While delivering the Introductory Address, Shree Harish Khare, Chairman of ADRI lauded Professor Ghosh for always seeking perfection in his craft apart from being a very wise and enthusiastic Mentor to budding researchers.
Shree Sushil Kumar Modi, former Deputy CM and Rajya Sabha Member paid tributes to the departed soul by pointing out that Dr. Ghosh’s knowledge of Public Finance ran deep and was second to none. The late Professor was able to marshal complex Econometric figures into galvanizing the real world of policy-making. This particular quality of Dr. Ghosh was reiterated by Shree Arunish Chawla, ACS, Planning and Development Department. Other outstanding qualities that he possessed, according to Shree Chawla, were being a person of impeccable integrity, complete professionalism, and incisive understanding. Shree Shivanand Tiwary recalled how he used to seek Professor Ghosh’s counsel on many issues.
Ms. Kiran Ghai maintained that the glorious heights attained by ADRI due to the duo of Shaibal Gupta and Prabhat P Ghosh will hold for eternity. Shree Prem Kr. Mani opined that both of them were responsible for making ADRI an intellectual powerhouse which has inspired many over the years.
Dr. S. Siddharth, ACS, Department of Finance, praised him for his pioneering role in the starting of publication of the Bihar Economic Survey. Shree Muchkund Dubey, former Foreign Secretary remarked that he was a Renaissance Man as well as a good family man. Shree Alakh Narayan Sharma of IHD said that Dr. Ghosh was a great researcher, teacher and perfectionist.
Others who spoke on the occasion were Dr. Nirmal Sengupta, Prajeta Pd. Ghosh (brother), Sanjay Kr. Singh of Deshkal, Dr. Ushashi Gupta, Dr. Gerry Rodgers, Prof. M. Govinda Rao, Dr. Romar Correa, Ivy Dasgupta, Sumanto Niyogi, Shabir Ahmad of Pratichi, Dr. Nandini Mehta of J D Women’s College, Dr. Anjini Kochar, Devendra Khandait and Dr. Hemant Shah of BMGF.
Dr Sunita Lall, Treasurer of ADRI, concluded the meeting by reminiscing about her 33 year-long association with him. She said that he had a clear heart and also possessed a great sense of humor. Shree Prabuddha Ghosh, son of the Late Professor, compered the meeting.
