Ratnakar Tripathy

Brief Profile:

After completing his Masters and Ph.D in Philosophy from University of Poona in 1987, Ratnakar Tripathy spent a few years in print journalism with The Times of India as well as Navbharat Times, Delhi. During the 1990s, he made a number of documentary films for TV channels on subjects requiring research-oriented scripting like the arts, environment, education, urban lifestyles, and women’s issues. As a Senior Research Fellow at ADRI [2006-16], he worked on popular culture in the Hindi heartland, internal and transnational migration, as well as media theory. More recently, he worked on Haryana [2014] and Himachal Pradesh [2016-18] as a Fellow at the IIAS, Shimla. With a number of publications based on his ethnographic work his main interest areas are culture industry, migration, philosophy of science, and democratic theory. He is currently working simultaneously on the digital culture industry of Jharkhand and the philosophy of Karl Popper.
