The International Growth Centre, directed by the London School of Economics (LSE) and University of Oxford,along with the Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR), Mumbai and the Institute of Development Studies, Kolkata (IDSK)is organising the 1stIGC Patna Summer School in Development Economics 1-6 August 2019. The workshop will be held at the Maurya Hotel, Patna.
The workshop is intended for advanced PhD students, students with recent PhDs, university faculty with recent PhDs, and officials engaged in research from government ministries. The workshop will consist of lectures on current research frontiers of the respective subjects, with an emphasis on quantitative methods relevant to contemporary policy issues in India. Participants will have an opportunity to meet lecturers in allocated office hours to discuss their research with lecturers.
Structure:The sessions cover technical and policy-relevant topics.Theseinclude introduction to causal inference; micro-econometric methods for research using household and firm data;and the latest research in development research. As part of the Summer School, IGC will also host lectures on Public Finance which will be delivered by Sudipto Mundle, Emeritus Professor - National Institute of Public Finance and Policy, New Delhi and member of the 14thFinance Commission, Government of India.

Notes for applicants:Applications should include a current CV and a sample of research work. All students need to submit a mark sheet or transcript from their Masters/MPhil/PhD programme along with a CV and sample research work. All applications should be submitted to india@theigc.org with the subject line ‘IGC Patna Summer School 2019’. Preference will be given to Researchers/ PhD students based out of Eastern India (not limited to).
2nd class AC Rail-travel and all local expenses for accepted outstation participants will be reimbursed. Applications must be submitted by 30 June 2019 and acceptance decisions will be made by 10 July 2019.
