IGC Programme Economist, India (Bihar)
Salary is competitive and £30,000 pa inclusive
The International Growth Centre (IGC), based at LSE and in partnership with the University of Oxford, aims to promote sustainable growth in developing countries by providing demand-led policy advice based on frontier research.
In collaboration with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) in India and the Asian Development Research Institute (ADRI), the IGC is currently implementing a programme of work focussed on building a strong, sustainable ecosystem of monitoring and evaluation in Bihar, India. This includes:
- Increasing the demand, use, and integration of evidence, based on rigorous frontier research, in policymaking and programme design;
- Generating transformational ideas and strong policy impact in desired focus areas in Bihar, such as health, nutrition sanitation and financial inclusion;
- Enhancing skills of policymakers, researchers, and practitioners to build greater institutional capacity to facilitate and increase innovation and local adaptation of monitoring and evaluation knowledge.
The successful candidate will have:
- MSc/MA degree in development economics, economics, public policy, or related discipline, with an evident command of a sub-discipline relevant to programme’s focus areas.
- Demonstrated understanding of policy-relevant economic research and expertise with quantitative and qualitative research methodologies.
- Demonstrated ability with engaging policy makers, including the ability to build relationships and engage in policy dialogue. Bihar or India specific experience would be an advantage.
- Evidence of the ability to work independently as a dynamic, self-starter with minimal supervision in challenging environments.
