Position: Research Associate

Number of Position: One

Duration: One year

Eligibility Required:

  • Masters degree in Economics, Development studies (with economics), or Bachelors degree in economics equivalent with suitable work experience. Aptitude for the bidirectional emergence and application of practice to theory and theory to practice.
  • Interest in working with/liaisoning/communication simultaneously with grounded practice teams and academic researchers and multiple other stakeholders including Government officials and funders. Experience of one or more years of engagement or working on funded projects with national/international organization in research and development positions. Experience of liaising with diverse stakeholders and national/international donors and with all levels of government stakeholders will be viewed favourably.
  • Good knowledge in diverse quantitative and qualitative economics and social science Research Methodology; Familiarity with Health System and Services of India, including considerations of low-income groups, social opportunity; Preparation of sampling frame/tools/instruments relevant for indicators of interest.
  • Prior work experience in Health Systems and preferably Industrial Foundations of health.

Responsibilities:

The Research Associate will undertake the following roles and responsibilities of conducting research, specifically represented by but not limited to the details below, under the direction and guidance of the supervisor:

  1. Data Management/Analysis of primary and secondary data. Capability and comfort to work both solo and as teamwork in Qualitative/Quantitative data analysis within required timelines is anticipated. Managing data processing (directing the preparation of data entry software, entry of data through data entry operators at the state-level data entry center, back-check of data entry and cleaning of entered data).
  2. Systematic work and layered study of what is known, unknown, and how to capture nuances in a study.
  3. Strong writing skills - reports, research summaries, presentations, and academic papers. Proficiency in Microsoft Word/PowerPoint/Excel
  4. Demonstrable experience of developing (under supervision, but also own initiative):
    1. Research proposals
    2. Short policy briefs
    3. Scientific publications
    4. Blogs, popular writing a plus
    5. Videos/Social media posts as needed
  5. Demonstrable excellent oral and written communication skills
  6. Evidence/experience of working with high integrity and owner within ethical guidelines.

Operational Management and Capacity Building:

  • To ensure liaising and some training of data collectors (project and government level) and liaising with project and government level staff involved in data collection on each relevant component of the Research studies – on methodology, tools and data collection protocols through on-the-job training, classroom trainings and hand-holding relevant for assessments.
  • Ensuring effective documentation of project efforts, learning and achievements.
  • Ensuring all the communication (including reports, papers, presentations) from the Research Project adhere to ethical guidelines and organizational values.
  • Assist in the preparation of annual reports, case studies, briefs, presentation & other reports to interpret and disseminate outcomes and learnings
  • Manage the relationship with the vendors / consultants; brief, monitor and support the Team Lead and Team to achieve objectives of the assignment; and, ensure high quality of output / deliverable is delivered on time and at reasonable cost.
  • Understanding and collating the learnings from different sites and regions and develop a common information sharing module and disseminate the same
  • Prepare slide-decks for sharing data and findings with Government stakeholders
  • Prepare reports on findings / results from different research studies for communicating with stakeholders at various levels.
  • Support in developing and writing papers for publication and presentations

Other Responsibilities:

  • Support in ensuring ethics review materials are prepared.
  • Documenting project progress for use in every successive monthly meeting with district and state leadership of government and for sharing with external stakeholders.
  • Travel within or beyond the program areas for 25-50% of the time if required.

Remuneration:

Commensurate with knowledge and experience. Maximum Rs. 75,000 per month will be offered for the deserving candidate.
