Brief: The study “State Effectiveness, Bureaucratic Management Practices, and Citizen-State Interaction in India” is a collaboration between the Asian Development Research Institute (ADRI) and the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). The purpose of this study is to better understand management practices, motivation, and performance of bureaucrats tasked with policy implementation.
Position: Research Associate
Duration: July 2024 to March 2025
Number of positions: One
Place: Bihar
Responsibilities:
- Lead a large survey team all over Bihar (both from Patna and by travelling to remote locations as required)
- Liaison with government officials and bureaucrats at different levels
- Review incoming survey data and ensure data quality (in collaboration with a dedicated data analyst)
- Monitor and support enumerators
- Manage day-to-day activities as well as the overall project implementation sticking to deadlines
- Regularly communicate with lead researchers in Patna and London
Required:
- PhD or Masters in related field
- Extensive experience in leading large survey teams
- Experience in using SurveyCTO
- Good working knowledge of survey methodologies
- Excellent knowledge in governance and bureaucracy, especially in Bihar
- Good knowledge of statistics/qualitative and quantitative data analysis
- Ability to interact with high-level Govt. officials
- Excellent knowledge of Hindi and English (oral and written)
- Expertise in content writing
Desirable:
- Experience in working with/in the public sector
- Working knowledge of Stata/R and econometrics
- Experience in implementation research
Remuneration:
